Sirens and Sentinels

In this immersive installation of newly developed work, Arch abandons her usual ebullient use of color in favor of the starkness and mystery of white. Airy, latticed structures, slightly precarious in nature, evoke diverse connotations—from wedding cakes, chandeliers, and cactus, to urban architecture.

Using lightweight plastic foam as structural material, Arch adds textured acrylic mediums to create surfaces that range from slick and shiny to pebbly and matte. Dramatic lighting casts ominous shadows, setting the stage for a fanciful narrative that could conjure winged Sirens luring us into dangerous waters. Some works sit on wheels, suggesting they might follow viewers, while others are suspended from the ceiling and rotate slowly as viewers pass by. Skeletal obelisks—at once imposing, yet approachable—stand guard like vulnerable ivory towers.
