The title of this installation is meant to be ironic, although I am ok with the viewer making their own meaning from this work. Do I Make You Happy is the question that I and other women find ourselves asking constantly. The question assumes that we are supposed to make someone else happy or at least fulfill some expectation. Women are taught to be pleasing and to please. The sinuous shapes are painted in bright colors that we often associate with happiness, but what to make of those rough and creepy black vines, or the large black and white drawings spelling out Do I Make You Happy in lettering that screams to be heard. Do I Make You Happy was installed at the Hess Gallery, Pine Manor College, fall of 2018.
